Ever think about writing yourself? There is a wonderful author and writing teacher named Ralph Fletcher. He has written many books, both professionally and for entertainment. Out of his many pieces of advice for writers, the one that is most meaningful is how he describes the difference between writers and "regular people." In his book, A Writers Notebook, he writes that all people make observations, but writers record them. They record their thoughts, what they see, how they feel. And then, once the thinking is recorded, it is always available for the writer to have and use. What one feels today, is not what one might feel in the future. It is good to have those earlier feelings recorded. It allows you to become introspective and grow.
This has been good advice. Writing cleanses my soul and my heart. It gives me pause to reflect, wonder, and take joy. It allows me to be me. I also understand that writing does not come easy to every one. What to write when faced with a blank page might be very scary...if someone places a series of quadratic equations in front of me, I get scared. That being said, the exercises here can be done whenever you want in any order. There is only one rule: Do what feels right. If it is right, then write. Take the dive.
